Hello! My name is Meara (pronounced MARE-uh) and I joined the LanguageBird team in July 2022. I serve as Head of School overseeing our Academic Department. I received a B.A. in psychology with minors in French and Africana Studies from the College of the Holy Cross and hold an M.S. in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University. 

I was born and raised in Albany, NY and currently reside in Falls Church, VA, just outside of Washington, D.C. I have worked in education for about 20 years in a variety of settings, including teaching French to students from elementary-age to adult and serving as a school leader at 1-to-1 and alternative schools. My personal experiences traveling and learning language as well as my passions for inspiring engagement, critical thinking, cultural competence, and lifelong learning in students drew me to LanguageBird’s wonderful team and mission. 

Some fun facts about me are that I studied abroad for a year in Cameroon and that I have run many half marathons and two Ragnar Relays. When not at work, she can be found chasing after her two young daughters, exploring new places, enjoying the outdoors, exercising, creating art, and learning Spanish from her daughters who are at dual language immersion schools.
