Nice to meet you! My name is Liuan Yang (杨柳岸). I am a native speaker of Mandarin from Zhejiang Province in China, and I currently live in Kansas. I have been teaching and tutoring Mandarin for 5 years. I hold the Kansas PreK-12 teaching certification in Mandarin and ESOL, and I have worked with students in various age groups and both in-person and online settings.

I believe learning a new language opens doors to cultural richness. It means discovering more memes to laugh at, more songs to resonate with, and diverse perspectives to explore the world. From childhood, I’ve had a passion for languages, leading me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in English-Chinese Translation and Interpreting, followed by a master’s in Second Language Acquisition. This background as a lifelong language learner and researcher shapes my unique approach as an instructor. I’m thrilled to assist you along this journey to explore the Mandarin language and Chinese culture.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy anime and manga, and I work as a freelance translator for Japanese manga. I also find joy in cooking Chinese cuisine and would love to share my favorite recipes with you!
