Student Spotlight: Jack C.
Where did you hear about LanguageBird and why did you choose this program?
I first heard about LanguageBird from my middle school principal and was excited that they offered a lot of languages that my school was not able to offer.
What language did you take and who was your instructor?
Mandarin Chinese with Xin Huo.
What recommendations do you have for future LanguageBird students?
I would recommend that future LanguageBird students fully utilize the program and make an effort to get to know their teacher. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, send emails, and make mistakes.
How do you plan to use your new language skills?
I love to travel, and I hope to one day visit and or work in China.
How did LanguageBird support your learning goals?
I can quickly and efficiently get through material while still having a thorough understanding of the content.
Describe your favorite part of your LanguageBird program.
I like the one-to-one nature of the program because I can go as fast or as slow as I need to. You can’t hide as you sometimes can in a class, so you really get to know the material.
What was your favorite thing that you learned?
My favorite thing is learning about Chinese culture and cultural differences. One of the ways my teacher incorporates culture is through my projects. For example, I had to use a Chinese website to identify an appropriate apartment to rent and then use my Mandarin language skills to explain why I chose the apartment that I selected.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your experience?
I have learned more in my almost 4 levels of Mandarin with LanguageBird than I did in 7 years of Spanish at my old school. The accountability, personalization, and relationship with my teacher has been amazing.
